A couple weeks ago Curtis and I traveled to Atlanta to visit my brother, his wife and their five kiddos. It was a great way to start the new year and keep the holiday celebrations going just a little longer. While the main goal was some much needed quality family time we also hit a few hot spots in and around the city that I wanted to share. The first photo under each heading is linked to that attraction.

Sawnee Mountain – Cumming, GA

We had a great time hiking to the top, snacking on some orange slices and taking in the views. The wilderness of this area reminded me a lot of Northern Michigan.

South Main Kitchen – Alpharetta, GA

We were able to sneak away for an adults only dinner in lieu of Christmas gifts. We had a fantastic meal with incredible cocktails and atmosphere.

Ponce City Market – Atlanta, GA

We stopped for lunch at the market where there is a plethora of incredible eateries as well as tons of shops to peruse. I settled on Hop’s chicken which I’ll be dreaming about for a while. Farm to Ladle and H&F burger were also highly praised by family members.

The Beltline – Atlanta, GA

The beltline is an old railway corridor that snakes through Atlanta with the Ponce City Market conveniently on it’s trail. After lunch we walked the path and saw street art, views of skyline and ended at the Historic Fourth Ward Park where the kids could play.

Jake’s Ice Cream – Atlanta, GA

There are several locations but we got our treats at the Jake’s within the Irwin Street Market. Along with many ice cream flavors there was also a pastry case with such creations as a homemade kit kat bar, a captain crunch treat and classic cookies as well. I enjoyed a  scoop of blueberry basil ice cream and a scoop of nutella chocolate. Both were outstanding!

Family Memories

Curtis and I also made the time to take the four oldest nieces and nephews on their own “special date”. It was as simple as grabbing a hot chocolate and a treat with each of them but we had so many great little moments talking and laughing with them. I’m so glad we made it a priority!
